CrossFit continues to grow in all parts of the world, and Russia is no exception. In December 2014, CrossFit offered a Level 1 Certificate Course at CrossFit Geraklion in Moscow. The course was translated into Russian by Level 1 Seminar Staff member Dmitry Andryukhin, and participants came from as far away as Siberia to hear the material in their native language.
Earlier, Andryukhin had sent an email to CrossFit Training to express his interest in spurring the growth of CrossFit in his country, and he was elated to receive a response from Seminar Staff member E.C. Synkowski, who offered Andryukhin an opportunity to start off as a translator.
Andryukhin and fellow Seminar Staff members Erik Preston and Wesley Cloos are now building a community and bringing CrossFit to Russia seminar by seminar. It’s almost like experiencing the CrossFit boom in the United States for a second time, Preston says.
“We get to almost relive that sense of belonging and that sense of wonder and that sense of passion—you see it all the time in a seminar abroad,” he says. “That’s really the juice. That’s the experience that I get to live.”
