On Episode 363 of CrossFit Radio, host Justin Judkins interviewed Alison Bukowski of CrossFit Petworth, as well as Chris McDonald, who owns CrossFit X Factor and is a member of CrossFit’s Level 1 Seminar Staff. This episode was webcast on Jan. 7, 2015.
2:29 Alison Bukowski opened CrossFit Petworth in Washington, D.C., in September 2014. She talked about how she set up the affiliate and why she chose to offer certain classes. Because she has so many people who are new to CrossFit, Bukowski created a class that slightly dials back the intensity to create a bridge to the affiliate’s regular classes. Bukowski noted the pros and cons of this approach and closed by talking about CrossFit Petworth’s first nutrition challenge.
17:53 Many people focus on fitness in January, and Chris McDonald explained how he holds onto new members who are trying CrossFit as a New Year’s resolution. One of his strategies involves helping people adopt CrossFit as a lifestyle rather than a part-time hobby. McDonald also talked about how he fosters community inside and outside CrossFit X Factor by offering special workshops open to members of any affiliate in the Portland, Oregon, area. With the CrossFit Games competition season almost upon us, McDonald commented on some of the changes athletes will see in 2015, and he talked about the constant evolution that characterizes the world of CrossFit.
