CrossFit Radio Episode 354

On Episode 354 of CrossFit Radio, host Justin Judkins interviewed CrossFit New West owner Kyle Oberndorf and CrossFit Vitality owner Steve Pinkerton. This episode was webcast on Nov. 5, 2014.

7:00 CrossFit New West’s website features a document titled “Our 14 Point Culture,” and Kyle Oberndorf explained how it guides him and his coaches as they work to create a great atmosphere at the gym. Oberndorf detailed the ways he helps his coaches pursue excellence and how he trains them to interact with athletes, and he gave his opinion on branding and how it applies to a CrossFit affiliate. To find a niche in the market, Oberndorf said he’s really worked to make his box family friendly.

20:08 Steve Pinkerton is breaking ground next week and spoke about why he’s constructing a 30,000-square-foot building. The new space will allow CrossFit Vitality to run several classes at once, and it will also be home to a healthy restaurant and other amenities often seen in health-and-wellness centers. Moving from huge building projects to the basics of running a gym, Pinkerton talked about warm-ups and mobility, capping classes, and highlighting members’ achievements on social media. Pinkerton and CrossFit Vitality are also featured in the nine-part video series “Fit to Teach.”
