Fit to Teach Episode 3: I Heart Burpees

With the encouragement of co-worker and CrossFit coach Meredith Davis, 18 Cannon School educators in Concord, North Carolina, started training at CrossFit Vitality. In this nine-part series, these teachers and administrators go through CrossFit fundamentals and try to determine the cognitive impact of the program.

In Week 5, CrossFit is becoming a priority. Even with work, family and life obligations, members of the Cannon School group are making it to the afternoon class at CrossFit Vitality. Several say they want and even need to get to the gym.

A fan of teamwork, coach Steve Pinkerton puts the group through a partner workout, and the benefits are apparent.

“(CrossFit’s) actually been … the best teamwork, bonding experience that I’ve had in my professional career,” says Michelle Zelaya, upper-school Spanish teacher.

Raving about higher energy levels, better mental states and new friendships, the group members are becoming convinced of the advantages of CrossFit.

“All teachers should do CrossFit,” says Zelaya. “Every human being should do CrossFit.”
