With the encouragement of co-worker and CrossFit coach Meredith Davis, 18 Cannon School educators in Concord, North Carolina, started training at CrossFit Vitality. In this nine-part series, these teachers and administrators go through CrossFit fundamentals and try to determine the cognitive impact of the program.
In Part, 2 CrossFit coach Steve Pinkerton strives to set a good example.
“Our business as box owners is providing value to our clients, and part of that,” Pinkerton says, “is us making sure that we’re in shape and making sure that we don’t lose track of why we’re doing this.”
Even with the rainy weather and pressing mid-term schedule four weeks into the program, clients are still intrigued.
“I’m impressed with how much (Pinkerton) knows and how well he can explain the movements and the functionality of the movements, because I know that’s a big part of CrossFit,” says Michelle Zelaya, upper-school Spanish teacher.
Aside from the physical benefits, Davis is seeing other improvements in the staff as a result of CrossFit.
“I’ve seen the relationships I’ve had with some of these members change,” she says. “To have my colleagues expose their weaknesses in front of me and talk to me about it, it just helps you get closer with the people that you work with.”
