CrossFit helps people do the things they want to do, but it also helps them with the things they don’t want to do.
Sgt. Shawn Wray of the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department was forced to carry a dying colleague up a steep cliff, and he believes his fitness allowed him to stay with his friend throughout the arduous rescue attempt. When others had to rest, Wray was able to keep going and spend every minute with Deputy Sheriff Kenneth James Collier, who died shortly after he was brought to the top of the cliff.
Wray considers being present for those final minutes an honor, and he thinks of them whenever he does a Hero workout in tribute to those who have given their lives.
CrossFit Inc. is sending Wray US$500 for sharing his story with us, and CrossFit Pride will receive a $500 gift card from Rogue Fitness.
